ATS3948 is designed specifically for students undertaking a major in a language, in literatures or in linguistics in the School of Languages. Opportunities in Prato are varied. Previous students have interned with the local government, with local schools as teaching assistants, and with local newspapers. Internships are an opportunity to practice language skills, observe language interactions and reflect on the application of their studies at Monash in a workplace.
What can I expect from an Internship?
In some ways, Internships are more time-consuming than a normal university unit, but they are also a rewarding experience. Students contemplating an internship should first discuss with the coordinator of the unit the opportunities for placement in Prato, and how an internship would fit into their major and their Prato program. In addition, students wishing to be placed as an intern should have developed, in conjunction with the unit coordinator, a plan for their internship assessment (~4,500 words, combination of essays, reports, vodcasts or blogs, in a combination of English and target language).
These arrangements should be in place before an internship can be approved as part of the semester in Prato program.
