Shanghai City Lab is open to other masters students across the faculty. It is run in partnership with the Monash Urban Planning & Design program and Shanghai Jiaotong University (SJTU), China’s third ranking university, through their School of Media and Design under the umbrella of the Cultural Economy Summer School.
Shanghai City Lab takes place in the historic Xujiahui campus located next to Shanghai’s vibrant French Concession. The unit is delivered via lectures, industry guest speakers and extensive site visits across this city of over 20 million people.
The assessment for this unit will be based on background reading and fieldwork, and involves urban analysis, group presentation, a written essay and a media-travelogue, encouraging you to use sounds and images, along with words, to reflect on your experience of the city.

All students will receive a Monash Abroad Travel Scholarship.
