Research-led Teaching

As a student in the Master of Applied Linguistics, you will have the opportunity to be taught by academics who are leading scholars in their field.

Our lecturers conduct research in areas such as computer-mediated communication, language and identity, intercultural communication and second language learning and teaching.

There is also specific expertise related to particular languages, including a long-standing specialisation in Japanese applied linguistics.

Monash is also renowned for its expertise in Australian and Austronesian languages and welcomes students with an interest in language documentation and/or revitalisation within our region.

All of our teaching staff are themselves committed researchers, who bring their state-of-the-art knowledge of the field to their teaching and encourage students to engage with current theoretical and methodological debates in the field.
