Genevieve Fahey is a freelance Interpreter and Translator, and is a graduate of the Monash Master of Interpreting and Translation. She talks about the challenges of starting a business and making initial contacts, and how the degree gave her the practical experience, and the industry and alumni network, to make a successful transition to her new career.
“There is a focus on how to prepare for work as a freelance translator or interpreter… I found the advice we received here really useful, and even essential”, said Genevieve.
“For the entire last semester we had a guest lecturer each week who worked in industry… agencies, hospitals, legal services, that used interpreters. So that was great… people already knew us, which made that initial transition into ‘where do I get my work from’ a lot easier!”
