Research-led teaching

Our Communications and Media Studies program is strongly underpinned by research and is housed in the Communications and Media section of the School of Media, Film and Journalism.

Our academic staff members have published important scholarly books and articles on diverse issues in media and cultural studies, and taken leading roles in highly regarded research bodies, including: the Australian and New Zealand Communication Association, the Cultural Studies Association of Australasia, the ARC Cultural Research Network and the International Australian Studies Association.

An important scholarly journal in the field, Continuum – Journal of Media and Cultural Studies is edited within the section and staff are recipients of prestigious Australian Research Council grants for projects investigating media and creative industries, most recently ‘Fringe to Famous: contemporary Australian culture as an innovation system’.

This research strength means that you can be confident that knowledge gained in our program is at the forefront of the field.
